We Almost Danced In My Dreams
We held each other tight and close,
Your neck was tickled by my nose.
Against each other we were lovingly pressed.
It was the sweetest mock caress.
You turned to me with loving eyes,
And gave me a much welcome surprise.
You asked with the most darling coo,
If we might share a dance or two.
It aroused a smile as big as the moon,
My heart and mind danced too in swoon.
But why then when this mood held sway,
Did I feel ourselves being pulled away?
A spectre appeared of apparent relation,
Who heralded the start of my dream’s degradation.
I knew then the dream that rendered me jolly,
Was merely my latest heartfelt folly.
